Guest Post from Proactive Parenting

Wow, I guess I'm a little blog happy tonight trying to catch up after crazy Chemistry finals. Here is another great article from Proactive Parenting that I wish I had read this morning. My day would have gone a whole lot easier!

Power Struggles: Once it begins how do I stop it?It can happen anywhere and at anytime. A child screams his demands and his parent feels overwhelmed, embarrassed or angry. Mom increases the intensity of her reaction because she knows what’s coming—a power struggle. Her son wants to be heard so he continues the negotiating and arguing. Now both parent and child are loudly trying to make their point and a power struggle has begun.• Why doesn’t the arguing and negotiating stop when a parent says, “stop it now”?

The short answer is your child is still learning and your reaction is one of the things teaching him.

When a parent increases the intensity of her reaction to stop a power struggle it can scare a child. Toddlers and preschoolers tend to revert back to a slightly younger age when they are really emotional. A parent’s big reaction can push a wee one over the edge emotionally causing a power struggle to get bigger or to morph right into a frightened tantrum. The other thing that could happen is due to immature understanding; a young preschooler can view a parent’s reaction as a form of teaching. They may misinterpret your reaction as “Oh, so this is how you’re supposed to behave” and then they model your behavior right back at you.

• Warning
This idea is not intended to stop power struggles from ever happening again. Power struggles will come back again. It’s how children push the envelope so they can learn the boundaries in different situations. Power struggles happen because a child has hit the end of his rope verbally, physically or emotionally and isn’t mature enough to know how to handle his big feelings and express himself respectfully at the same time, not yet. So he uses arguing and negotiating as his method of communication.

• How to drop your end of a power struggleSince your child is young and learning from everything around him, you need to make the first change. How? Mom and dad can back out of the power struggle by going silent for 10-60 seconds. It’s that simple and that powerful. The silence is not to be used as a punishment and it shouldn’t go on any longer than it takes for your child to recognize there’s been a change in your reaction. As long as the silence isn’t punitive it quickly becomes more powerful than the arguing. It sends the message, “I hear you and I’m no longer willing to argue with you.”

• Your first reaction after reading that may be, “doesn’t that mean I’m letting him get away with disrespectful behavior?” No, actually it’s quite the opposite.
Parental silence captures his attention and he realizes, “She’s not giving me what I want when I argue.” And since he’s emotionally out of control your silence shows him that you’re calm and in control and he’s comforted by that. He also senses that pleading, arguing and negotiating has to stop.

• You need to explain why you’ve gone silent or it will either confuse him or cause a bigger fuss. As soon as you realize you’re in a power struggle go silent for 10-60 seconds.

THEN Explain, “I will not be talking until you stop arguing.” Notice the short preschool level statement. THEN As he begins arguing again—go silent. He will try to argue with you again to see if you’re serious. Repeating instructions is key as you do this tip. Repeat this process as many times as needed the first one-five times you try this. So the next time you find yourself arguing with a 3 yr old or older—go silent for 10-60 seconds, take a few deep breaths and wait for your child to get calmer before you talk. Then follow your heart as you help him learn about your family’s rules and resolve the situation.

Florastor Review and Giveaway

Thanks to MomSelect my boys have had the wonderful opportunity to sample a new probiotic product called Florastor. Here is a quote from Florastor:

"There are billions of microbiota inside the intestines that keep the digestive system working properly. An upset in the balance of these microbiota, or flora, can cause intestinal problems, including diarrhea and abdominal discomfort, which can range from moderate to severe. Florastor® Kids is a clinically-tested, natural, yeast-based probiotic that aids in the growth of good microbiota in the intestines, while destroying and removing pathogenic (bad or disease-causing) microbiota to help maintain or restore optimal intestinal health.

Unique because it can be safely given to babies and children from the age of two months, Florastor® Kids is a great-tasting powder that can be dissolved in beverages, including infant formula, or soft foods, such as applesauce."
My boys are pretty picky guys but they love Florastor! They have had some problems with constipation lately and this has really seemed to make a difference. They even think it tastes good! I also like that the packets are so small so they are perfect for travel. The best part is that this product is safe for babies and toddlers.
I have one box to send a lucky winner. To enter please leave me a comment telling me why you would want to win this.

EK Success Giveaway

Do I have any scrapbooking followers? I love to scrapbook even though I am just a beginner at it. I can't tell you anything about digital scrapbooking because I'm totally clueless, but I do love seeing all the cute scrapbooking supplies in the stores. If you know anything about making cards by hand, scrapbooking, or other crafts then I'm sure you have seen products by EK Success.

EK Success carries so many crafting supplies with a variety of brands. I was the lucky recipient of there new Slim Line Punches with a Paper Shapers patented thumb punch lever. One of them is the medium punch that cuts out a cute little leaf, and the other one is an edger punch to make the sides of my pages so pretty! I like how smooth they work. I have others that are pretty stiff and I hold my breath hoping they cut evenly. These work great and have given me crisp results.

I also got a great stack of sticko stickers to decorate all of my pages. They have such a wide variety including Hannah Montana, Disney, and some cute boys themes as well. I have really enjoyed using them. They are 3-D and add great character to the scrapbooking pages.

They have new stickers called Bling & Shine that are metallic as well as new designs in their Soft and Puffy line.

I also received some stickers that I thought I would share from EK Success. One winner will receive 6 sticker sets. It will include a Princess pack, a Disney Princess clear stamps pack, 2 Disney's Hannah Montana, a pack of dimensional flowers, and a Disney Mickey Mouse dimensional pack.

To enter please head over to the EK Success site and tell me about a product you would like to try.

Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Activity Center Giveaway

Cody and I have been toying with the idea of having another baby. I really want to try for a girl and have been secretly wanting to buy things for a baby that are pink! While I haven't yet, I did enjoy receiving this Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Bounce-A-Bout Activity Center. I really think it is a sign, don't you?

Just look at all those fun toys that are attached! Any baby would have a blast in this activity center. First of all it was super easy to put together. I don't normally assemble items- I just pawn them off on my husband, but I felt like giving this a try and succeeded. Everything just snapped in place!

Here are some features listed on the Bright Starts site:
Ladybug mirror plays silly sounds
Frog spinner top
Spinning bee rattle ball
Ratcheting bug with crinkle fabric wings
Lilly pad toy stalk with fabric edges
Overhead toy arch includes teether and hanging bumblebee
Easy to clean toy tray
Four toy loops for attaching more of baby's favorite toys
Three adjustable height settings in seat
Additional Features:
Lays flat for storage
Machine washable seat pad

Don't have a girl? The activity center also comes in Blue. My favorite thing? That Bright Starts is giving a portion of the proceeds from their Pink Collection ( yes there are a lot more cute items!) through the KidsII Foundation to support Breast Cancer Research with a minimum of $100,000!

I am really excited to see my next baby play in this, it looks like so much fun and seems like a great way to stimulate any baby's mind. I know my boys had fun playing with it even though they aren't babies anymore!
Bright Starts Pretty in Pink Bounce-A-Bout Activity Center can be purchased online at target.com and brightstarts.com.
How would you like to win this? I knew you would! To enter please visit the Bright Starts site and tell me of an item you would like. Please include your email address.

Step 2 Arctic Splash Water Table

How fun does this look? Well I will tell you- it's a total blast! I think I might have had more fun with it than the boys! This is the Step 2 Arctic Splash Water Table and it couldn't have come on a more perfect day. It was one of the first nice days that we have had in a long time.
This table is a great way to let my boys play outside with water without all of the mess. It comes with animal quirt toys, and a dumping bucket. The boys really loved the slide so their animals could have fun slipping and sliding. The important thing is that it has enough space for them both to play so there isn't any fighting and pushing (which is so important to me when looking for a toy). It's also a great way to keep them moving instead of just sitting around in a kiddy pool. They practice their dumping water skills and have fun too!
I highly recommend this toy from Step 2 for Spring. You can purchase it directly from the Step 2 site at step2.com. Plus it's affordable- only $39.99!

Snorg Tees Giveaway!

I haven't mentioned it before but I am a HUGE fan of the Office. I love that Michael Scott. I have been wanting a shirt that mentions the Office so that everyone will know just how much I enjoy it. I came across Snorg Tees on a couple of other blogs and knew I had a winner. Look how cute this "Assistant to the Regional Manager" shirt is! Snorg Tees was kind enough to send me one and I love it so much!
Here is some info about Snorg Tees from their site:
Here at Snorg, we specialize in pop-culture inspired, random, and all around funny t-shirt designs. Most of the designs on our site are SnorgTees employee creations. But while we think of about 72% of what goes up on the site, 28% of the awesome design ideas come from you, our customers. So if you think you've got a great idea, send it our way.

I'm really in love with this shirt too- " Will Work for Shoes", way cute! The thing that impressed me the most was the quality of the shirt. It was a really cute feminine cut and felt like it wasn't a cheap shirt that would shrink up to my belly button. Snorg Tees definitely has a shirt for every type of person- the girly, the manly, the gross and the funny. Snorg Tees also has something for my readers as well. One reader will get to pick a shirt of their choice! Whoohoo!

To enter please head over to their site and leave me a comment telling me which shirt you would want. I really want to see what you pick- it will be interesting!

Smelly Washer Giveaway- 2 Winners!

So my towels have been smelly for a really long time now. I won't even say how long because it's too embarrassing, but let's just say they have been stinky. I have tried everything, vinegar, washing in hot water, super chemically, flowery fabric softener. I'm too stubborn and cheap to buy new towels so I have just been waiting to figure it out.

Then I saw Smelly Washer and I asked them if I could do a review for them. I would have begged if they had said no. Thankfully they didn't! What's Smelly Washer? Here is a description from their site: Smelly Washer Cleaner is the only clothes washer cleaner that is all natural! It is also the only available washing machine cleaner that will remove mold odor from any towel or clothing that has picked up bad mildew smell from the washer! Formerly Purewasher, we've removed any scents or dyes to conform with all natural product standards.

It's all natural! Right up my alley! So before I used it on my towels the bottle recommends using it to clean your washer. It was so easy. I just let it soak overnight and seriously, my washer was totally clean the next morning. Then I did my towels. You only have to soak them for 2 hours. It really worked! The thing I love is that you only have to use 1 tbsp at a time, so the product really lasts and saves you money.

I really enjoyed using this product and totally feel like a Heloise wannabe since it looks like I scrubbed my washer for an hour, but I don't mind! Guess what? Two lucky winners will each receive their own bottle of Smelly Washer! Please go to their site and then leave me a comment telling me why you want to win this.

Tide Loads of Hope

For those of you who don't know, I live in North Dakota. I'm not near Fargo so we didn't get hit with the flooding. Although, Cody did get laid off because of the flooding! I thought I would spread the word though to anyone else who might be near Fargo of a great thing that Tide is doing.

Tide’s Loads of Hope Mobile Laundry Program Heads to Fargo
to Provide Free Laundry Services
Program Supports Local Residents and Relief Workers in the Aftermath of Recent Flooding

WHO: The service is available to all families and relief workers affected by recent flooding that are in need of clean clothes.

WHAT: Beginning Monday, April 27th, the Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry program, in partnership with SUPERVALU, will be in Fargo, North Dakota with its “Loads of Hope” team to deliver clean clothes to those affected by the recent flooding in North Dakota and Minnesota. The Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry program will be providing free laundry services to both relief workers and residents of North Dakota and Minnesota who are in need of resources and support following the damage caused by the recent area flooding. These residents and workers are encouraged to drop off their laundry to be washed, dried and folded, free of charge.

The Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry program was created in 2005 to provide much needed free laundry services to families affected by Hurricane Katrina. Inspired by the resilience and spirit of the people of New Orleans, Tide was driven to expand the Loads of Hope program and has since helped families affected by the devastating wildfires of 2007 in Southern California, the 2008 floods in Iowa and most recently Hurricane Ike in Galveston, TX. Today, the program includes the Loads of Hope, truck outfitted with 32 energy-efficient Frigidaire® Affinity™ washers and dryers, and a fleet of vans that allow the Tide team to help more families than ever before. Collectively, Tide has washed nearly 30,000 loads of laundry for more than 20,000 families impacted by disasters since the program launched.

WHY: Tide has learned that the little things - like washing clothes - can make a big difference to those who have lost the comforts of home. The recent flooding has devastated many parts of North Dakota and has forced thousands of residents from their homes, leaving them without basic needs and resources. The Tide Loads of Hope mobile laundry program is prepared to help relief workers and families whose clothing and personal items have been impacted and to help renew a sense of hope to individuals in need.

People across the country can help support the Tide Loads of Hope program by purchasing a yellow-capped bottle of Tide at their local store or a Tide Loads of Hope vintage tee by visiting http://www.tideloadsofhope.com/ or by calling 1-866-772-1034. A portion of proceeds from the bottle and all of the profits from the tees go towards helping families affected by natural disasters.

WHERE: Loads of Hope Truck - Laundry Drop-Off Site:
Hornbacher’s
4151 45th St. S.
Fargo, ND 58104

WHEN: Services available Monday, April 27th through Wednesday, May 6th
from 8AM – 6PM

*You can now follow the Loads of Hope Truck on Twitter as it travels to areas affected by natural disaster by following @TideLoadsofHope.

Skin MD Review and Giveaway

Just so you know I am a lotion freak. I think it's because I am a little OCD and wash my hands ALL the time! So then my skin is dry ALL the time! So when I wash my hands many moisturizers just wash off leaving me with a never ending cycle of dry hands. While I love lots of different brands of lotions, I am very picky about what I use. I have a hard time using the kinds with harsh fragrances because they just give me a headache and leave me feeling like I am using too many chemicals on my body.

When I got to try Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion, I was amazed. Not only was it effective in retaining my moisture levels, I also felt good about using a product with natural ingredients.

Here is what the Skin MD site says about the quality of the lotion:

"Daily use of most soaps and cleansers can greatly reduce your skin's natural ability to repel the thousands of irritants and toxins that are commonly found in the home and work place. Once these irritants penetrate your outer layer of skin they can cause dry skin conditions, eczema, psoriasis, skin allergies and many other less desirable skin and health problems.
Dry skin and itchy skin are nature's way of warning you that the protective elements of your outer layer of skin have been stripped away.

"By using a shielding lotion that bonds with the outer layer of your skin you can keep irritants out and moisture in. Because most moisturizers do not seal in the body's own moisture, they artificially lubricate the outer layers of skin. When they wear off, the lubrication is gone and the original dryness remains. Sometimes this process will draw out the body's natural moisture and contribute to the dehydration process," writes Dr. Peter Helton, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in cosmetic dermatology."

Using humectants, it naturally retains and promotes moisture to your skin while drawing moisture from the air. What else makes this lotion so fab? Skin MD doesn't test on animals, is paraben free, Fragrance and colorant free, Dermatology tested, Non-comedogenic, and Hypoallergenic. Not only is this a great product for anyone, but especially with those that have sensitive or problematic skin. I just love it! To see more about how it works you can watch this video.

If you would like to win your own bottle of the Skin MD Natural lotion, please visit the skin care site and then leave me a comment telling me at least one ingredient that is in the lotion.

Tip Junkie is Making Me Famous!

Do you remember the 5 Minutes For Mom's Ultimate Blog Party? Well I totally won a 2 month sponsorship on Tip Junkie! So today Laurie posted about me on her blog and boy do I feel special! I checked my numbers and yesterday I had 158 visits but so far today I have had 472! How sweet is that. Now I can meet some more cool bloggers and feel the love! Don't you just love Tip Junkie? So if you came from Tip Junkie let me know, I would love to get to know you better, and if you didn't I still want to get to know you!

Oh My Land!

I have had a rough day feeling sorry for myself, lots on my plate, but nothing I can't handle. The kicker is, I have so much to be thankful for. My mom got her test results today and she doesn't need chemo! The doctors were amazed, the surgeon said that he has only seen it in one other patient before. I am so relieved! My mom still has a long road of check ups and tests since she has a higher risk of cancer now but what a blessing!

It's funny how a cancer scare can make you look differently at things. It makes you realize how unimportant other trials can be. The last week has made me want to be better and now I just have to figure out how to do it...

Did anyone else catch Grey's Anatomy tonight? There was the sweetest little girl who died of cancer. It made me cry like a baby and it also made me want to hold my babies close.

My auntie sent me this touching video that I think I should watch every morning before I start my day and maybe, just maybe, I will start to be less likely to nag my husband, or scold my boys. Maybe it will make me more motivated to not want to blog all day and instead do something for someone else. Have you seen this yet? I hope it touches you the way it has me!

I got to review another great children's shoe company. If you haven't heard of Pediped by now, you must not be a mom! These shoes are so perfect for little ones on the go. My son received the Taylor in Chocolate Brown and he loves them ( of course).

He is very particular about what shoes he likes and boy was he happy to wear these outside today for the first time. What a great way to break in Spring then with a pair of new sandals? What do I love about Pediped other than the look? The durability, the quality of the shoe, and that they are accepted by the American Podiatric Medical Association.

How much better can you get? Here is a quote from their site: " pediped™ footwear is designed to be the "next best thing to bare feet." They allow children's feet to develop naturally and provide optimal support and protection during the developmental stages of babies' feet – from initial crawl to the first steps and beyond. "

LashFood Giveaway

Well it has been around a month since I first started using LashFood. In case you missed it you can read about my review here. Well a lot has changed since then. My eyelashes! Entering Giveaways

I'm Back! I made it home late last night and did a whole lot of sleeping. I think all that traveling and stress has just left me tuckered out! I came home to a clean house and a lot of love. And a lot of mail! I'm slowly but surely responding to all of you who left me your comments with support. If I miss anyone, please forgive me!

Well now that I am getting back into the swing of things, I thought I would go over the giveaway entry rules before I begin to post more. Now I know a lot of you totally know what you're doing but there are some new followers out there who might be new to blogging period. So if you are a pro feel free to ignore this, but this is a great way to make sure you aren't entering my giveaways for nothing- since I don't count entries that don't meet the requirements.

First look for the first way to enter the giveaway. It is usually right after my review and is sometimes highlighted in bold- maybe I should make sure I always do that....
Usually the requirement is to go to the site and tell me your favorite item or who you would give the item to, etc. The next step is to leave me the info in the form of a comment. When you do that be sure I have a way to email you. Many people think their email address is in their profile, but there are a lot that aren't. So if you're not sure just leave your email address. The same goes for anonymous bloggers.

Next is the easy part. Just follow the list that is given on the post of ways to enter. You MUST leave a separate comment for each type of entry. Don't forget you are now able to gain an extra entry by adding my button to your blog. I have some faithful people who enter my giveaways who have a great record for winning because they simply enter as many ways as possible. Now I'm not saying you have to- because I know it's a pain. But in the past I have noticed the majority of the winners who have won, happened to have a lot of entries.

So, I hope this helps and if anyone has any questions feel free to ask me. I know when I first started entering giveaways I was totally clueless and had to just figure it out on my own.

I'm Coming Home!

The surgery yesterday went way better than we could have hoped for. The surgeon was prepared for a battle when he opened up my mom but he came out saying " Your mother is very lucky." So here is what we know- she had a VERY large tumor on her right ovary. It was full of cancer but the incredible thing is, is that it formed a protective barrier around it so we think that it prevented the cancer from spreading. We will have the results next week to see for sure but the dr is very confident it is only stage one cancer. She should have a few weeks of chemo and still has a very long road of recovery.

She also now has a very high chance of getting other cancers, like breast cancer so that will always be hanging over our heads but we will just take one step at a time. I feel so blessed! I feel my relationship with God has changed in a very big way and I have truly felt his role in this sitaution. Did I mention Cody got laid off again? I didn't before but I'm mentioning it now because it has turned into a blessing. Our checking account might not see it that way but we do. Cody has been able to stay home with the boys for the last 6 days giving them all the love, security, and attention they need. That has been such a blessing. While I miss them so much and was worried to leave them for so long ( this is the first time I have ever been away over night!), it has been a great time to shift my focus on other things for a bit.

This time has reaffirmed my love and appreciation for my husband as I have seen his concern for my mother, and for me, and the way he took over the role of mom. I am so thankful for that. This time has made me see things about my life that I never noticed before, and has allowed me to see things about myself that I want to change. I also have felt a incredibly amazing calm through this whole crazy time and can only give credit to Heavenly Father.

He has kept me relaxed, and if anyone really knows me, they know I am not a relaxed person! As my mom went off to surgery I really was not worried- even though I knew there was a good chance of very bad news. Besides, all that worry would have been wasted energy.

Finally I am still receiving such wonderful love and support from friends, family, and blogging friends. I am amazed. Who knew that so many people can touch your heart from so far away. So thank you everyone!

I will be flying home tomorrow and will be getting in late tomorrow night. Cody and the boys have to drive 4 hours to the airport to pick me up and then another 4 hours home so it should be interesting. I have a lot of catching up to do with school work, housework, and postings for giveaways and review, so I will be posting when I can. I will also have to share all the fabulous food I ate while here ( I know I gained weight!) and some pics. By the way, has anyone seen the new movie Knowing with Nicholas Cage? Well if you have then you will know why I am very freaked out to be flying again! So we'll see how it goes!

Update

I just wanted to stop in the blogging world for a minute and let you know what has been going on. My mom found out she has ovarian cancer. I flew out to AZ to be with her. She is having surgery tomorrow and we will know how bad it is. So far we know that when they tested her she had a marker level for cancer of 16,000 when it should be around 35. I should be in bed right now but felt like keeping everyone in the loop. I am so thankful for all of the wonderful comments and emails I have received with support.

I am truly grateful for a wonderful network of friends that take the time to show they care. Things are very uncertain and we will know more tomorrow. I am just trying to stay positive and know in my heart that what ever happens is part of Heavenly Father's plan. Cody and the boys are in ND without me and I miss them terribly but know that I am supposed to be here right now. Hopefully all the companies who have sent me products read this and are understanding!

Again I am very grateful for all of you who have sent me good wishes, positive thoughts and who are praying for my family. I will update when I can.

Mini Kick Scooter Review

During the winter my boys and I have to spend all day every day inside. The bitter cold and blizzards make it impossible for us to do anything fun outside. We do however have a big house with wood flooring and plenty of space for them to run around. So when this beautiful bad boy came, the boys went nuts! The Mini Kick Scooter is a great way to keep the boys active and safe as well.

The Mini Kick Scooter is a three wheel scooter for littler ones that are ages 2 to 5. It is made by Micro Mobility, a Swiss company, so it is built to last. That is so important with items like these that get a lot of use. The fabulous design includes lean and steer design and is very light weight. It is a great exercise for kids and also helps children improve their gross motor skills and coordination. It is also low to the ground so I feel safe as a mom in letting them use the scooter. I love that they are able to have some fun and feel like the other big kids they see on scooters.

The very best part about this scooter is that the boys can play with it for hours. Unlike their other toys, this one they will never grow tired of. I am glad Spring is finally here so we can take it for a test drive outside! I know that this will stay in our home for a long time since it is so durable. Also the people at Kickboard USA have other products like scooters for older children, bikes, and safety gear. They even have free shipping! That is a huge plus in this economy! If you would like more info on the Mini Kick Scooter or their other products, you can visit their site at kickboardusa.com.

I have a long list of scheduled reviews and giveaways and I don't need them to pile up so we'll see. I will keep in touch.

Dapple Review and Giveaway

Dapple has won my heart ♥. As you might have guessed by some of the items I review, I LOVE eco-friendly products in my home. I also love babies but not the messes they leave me. Dapple is a unique line of green products that are safe to use to clean all of your baby items.

I got the chance to try the Dapple Toy Cleaner Wipes and the Dapple Toy Cleaner Spray. Especially with sick ones in the house the last few weeks, I really put these products to use! Just because these items are made from natural- based ingredients, doesn't mean the cleaning power can't pack a punch!

I can't believe the gentleness that the products have on the skin, yet the toughness I need for the dirt and grime that come with kids. Dapple also has Dapple Dish Liquid which is great for washing baby bottles ( I loathe washing bottles!) and Dishwater Powder. If you are expecting, or know someone that is, then you have to include this on the list of must-haves.

The wonderful people at Dapple are giving one lucky winner a bottle of the Dish Liquid as well as the Travel Size Toy Wipes. If you would like to enter please head on over to Dapple and then leave me a comment telling me why you need these products.

Lucky Girl Trading Compay Giveaway

It's been awhile since I have had an etsy shop on my blog and I am really excited to share this one with you! Lucky Girl Trading Company is an etsy shop that has some really unique jewelry. The shop has beautiful glass and dichroic pendants. There is a great mix of antique, retro, and modern jewelry available that anyone is sure to find something they love!

Peggy, the owner, and jewelry maker of Lucky Girl Trading Company sent me a gorgeous pendant that I can't wait to put a chain on. The shop also sells chains as well to compliment your purchase, not to mention cute little earrings.

Here is some info from Peggy's profile on etsy: In the spring of 2001 I was overwhelmed by sadness and huge piles of clutter. My marriage was in the midst of a very ugly ending, and he had left tons of his stuff behind. I suddenly realized that I was a very lucky girl to be rid of him, and Lucky Girl Trading Company was born. I began listing his stuff for sale on eBay, clearing away both the clutter and the sadness. A few years later I met my lucky guy--who was selling a bit of jewelry--and married him in a hot air balloon ceremony in 2006. We've worked together to build Lucky Girl Trading into a fun and fulfilling enterprise. I've discovered working with glass--one of my all-time favorite creative outlets. I've also discovered two ancient arts: Kumihimo and Temari. Both are centuries-old crafts, and both give me a zen-like tranquility while working. I truly am a Lucky Girl! Every day I gather pretty, sparkly things and send them to people. I imagine a person opening their mail and taking out their new pendant or chain or pouch. It's perfect--they have a huge smile on their face--and so do I. I'd love for that person to be you!

Peggy has great customer service and my pendant came in the mail VERY quickly! Peggy has very generously offered one of my readers any fused glass pendant of your choice! To enter please head over to the Lucky Girl Trading Company and leave me a comment on an item you would like to win.

Natures Paradise Baby Organic Line Review and Giveaway

My favorite thing to do with the boys is give them a bath. I love how squeeky clean and kissable they are afterwards. It's so nice to hug them and have them smell so good. It's also nice to know that I used safe products on them. Especially with all the stories in the media lately that products such as Johnson and Johnson carry chemicals that are known to be harmful.

That's why I was so happy to receive the Natures Paradise Baby Organics Line. Happy to know that I can trust what I am using on my boy's bodies. The Baby Organic Kit includes 8 oz Conditioning Shampoo & Body Wash, 6 oz Lotion, 3 oz Diaper Cream, 4 oz Baby Powder, 4oz Baby Coconut Oil and 2oz hand Sanitizer along with a puff Sponge for cleaning Baby.
A baby's skin is so delicate and soft. As a mom I want to protect my child's skin and keep it as soft as possible. I have mentioned before that Ki has a slight problem with eczema. So I know that I can't use generic products on him. They never work. I absolutley loved using the Baby Organics on him. His skin really retained it's moisture and stayed soft and smooth. My favorite part of the line is the smell. You can buy either Coconut or Unscented. Like I said earlier, I LOVE bath time and when the boys gave me a hug after their bath, I was in heaven. They smelled soooo yummy! I have to say the product that I enjoyed the most was the Conditioning Shampoo & Body Wash for that very reason.
If you would like to win the set above ( come on, how could you not? ), if not for you then as a gift for someone you know, then please leave me a comment letting me know of another product by Natures Paradise that isn't in the Baby Line that you would like to try.
For additional entries please leave a separate comment for each of the following:
  • If you subscribe via email
  • If you subscribe via feedburner
  • If you follow this blog
  • If you post my button on your blog or site
  • If you tweet this and leave me the link
  • If you post this on your blog and leave me the link

Giveaway ends April 28th 11:59 pm

Also the generous people at Natures Paradise are offering my readers a discount! Just enter blessedbarnharts in the shopping cart and you will receive 15% off! No experation either!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well according to my husband who keeps calling it Thanksgiving! So Happy early Easter! Before I post the next giveaway I had to share some Easter pics. The Easter Bunny comes the day before Easter in our house to make my Sunday before church less hectic.

I am really proud of myself this year because I only spent a total of $14 for both baskets. I think that's good- $7 each.... I stocked up on clearance toys at Walmart for the boys. The boys REALLY wanted some official football player shoes with the spikes. Walmart had size 12 on clearance for $5 so I got them. Yes they are way too big but they are just going in their dress up box so it's ok. Then a bubble gun, a football player, and a sticky hand and your set! My mom sent them Learning Leap Frog Math Circus so we don't have to rent it from Netflix anymore. Overall it was a success! In 1 second they had the candy eaten- yes the one day in the year where they can have candy for breakfast.

Check out their faces as soon as they saw their baskets... priceless!

EarCheck Monitor Review and Giveaway

We have all been sick around my house. My boys are better but now I'm starting to feel under the weather. Ki and Jackson both had a bad cold that left them very congested. Ever since Ki had his first ear infection when he was a baby, I have been a freak about trying to prevent them. Mostly I just make them sleep with their heads propped up at night. The one thing that drives me nuts though, is that I never have a way of knowing if they have an ear infection. Especially when the boys were babies. Since they were too little to tell me I just had to keep bringing them into the doctor whenever I saw them pulling on their ears.

So with this battle of colds something came in the mail at the perfect time. I think it was fate... We received the EarCheck Monitor from Earcheck.com. I seriously think that this is a must have for any mother. As soon as I received the EarCheck Monitor I used it on Ki. His first reading in one of his ears was a level 2 so that indicated we should monitor him. The next day he was feeling better and his reading was a 1 which means that fluid is unlikely.

I love how easy this gadget is. When your child is sick the last thing you need to do is figure out how to work something. The other thing that I liked is that the results are very quick so your child is not uncomfortable. This is a great peace of mind for any mother with a sick child. It can save a trip to the doctor and a copay! Since I am not good at explaining medical stuff.. below is a video on how the EarCheck Monitor actually works.

If you would like to win an EarCheck Monitor for yourself, please leave me a comment telling me why you would want to win this. Also in case you haven't noticed there is a new way to gain an entry for a total of 7 possible entries!

For additional entries please leave a separate comment for each of the following:

  • If you subscribe via email
  • If you subscribe via feedburner
  • If you follow my blog
  • If you have my button on your blog
  • If you tweet this and leave me the link
  • If you post this on your blog and leave me the link

GelPro Review and Giveaway

I hate to do the dishes. It's like laundry- it's always there waiting for you and it never ends! I have wood flooring in my kitchen and so when I do the dishes it can be a pain on my feet and back. So when I saw GelPro, I knew I had to try to get it on my blog. GelPro is a mat for you to stand on that can be used when you are cooking, doing the dishes, in your laundry room, or anywhere else you are standing on hard floors.

Here is a little info from the GelPro site: Everyone can benefit from the comfort provided by a GelPro mat. There are, however, millions of individuals that are especially susceptible to hard, unforgiving flooring. Chief among them − young and old alike − are those with painful arthritis, lower back pain, foot pain, plantar fasciitis, and diabetes. According to Arthritis Today magazine, approximately 43 million Americans suffer from arthritis, and Newsweek reports that 65 million Americans suffer from lower back pain. These conditions, along with foot pain, plantar fasciitis, and diabetes are all exacerbated by standing on hard flooring. GelPro mats have unique and unsurpassed ergonomic properties to help counter these irritating and disabling pains. You will enjoy time spent in your kitchen once again − or on hard flooring surfaces anywhere in your home − without constant foot pain and back pain.
I got to sample a GelPro mat in Basketweave. First off, these mats are stylish! I haven't seen anything like this in the stores and I especially haven't seen anything this pretty! GelPro has several styles to choose from AND GelPro offers six larger sized mats that are built to order! So you can use them for larger areas!
After testing out my mat through several dish washing sessions, I thought for sure the mat would eventually go flat, but it didn't. It maintained it's shape and my feet never caused the mat to sink in while I was standing on it. The GelPro mat is also easy for me to clean which is a plus since my my boys are always spilling things on the floor.
I personally think that these mats make great Mother's Day presents if the mother, wife or daughter in your life spends a lot of time on her feet in the kitchen! So guess what?! One lucky winner will win a GelPro mat in Basketweave with your choice of color. To enter please go to their site and leave me a comment telling me which color you would pick.

Blog Makeover Giveaway Bash Starts with Belli Skincare

What a great way to start the giveaway bash then with Belli Skincare! I have had my eye on this product line ever since I was pregnant with my first son which was about 4 years ago! I kept hoping I would get some of the products as a baby shower gift but I didn't.... but Belli Skincare did send me some to review! I was so excited to try such a professional and natural skincare line.

I was able to try the Acne Clearing Facial Wash, the Eye Brightening Cream, the Pampered Pregnancy Body Wash, the Pamper Me Talc-free Baby Powder, the Foot Relief Cream, and the Nourish Me Enriched Body Lotion! It felt like my birthday when I opened the package.

Oh how I wish had these with my first baby! I love Belli Skincare for sooooooooooo many reasons! First of all, I love that they are so particular about what they put in their products. They know that it is so important not only what we put in our bodies, but what we put on our bodies as well. Here is some info from the Belli Cosmetics site :

Belli Pregnancy has set a higher standard for prenatal safety, as the only skin care line in the world that is teratology screened. We search through over 16 million medical research articles in over 5000 international journals, and use this information to exclude ingredients with even remote links to birth defects or other problems with pregnancy. Belli Motherhood is LactMed screened to avoid ingredients linked to harmful effects during breastfeeding. Belli Baby is screened for xenoestrogens—chemicals which can act like hormones that interfere with normal development of the reproductive system. So no matter which Belli products you use, you can have peace of mind erring on the side of caution.

The Belli Collection was also created and founded by a doctor who knows the effects that chemicals have on our bodies. Not only is there a large selection of products for both mom and baby, but they really serve their purpose. My absolute favorite product is the Acne Clearing Facial Wash. This wash smells so heavenly! It has just the right touch of lemon in it, leaving my skin feeling squeaky clean and refreshed. It has also helped me with breakouts which can be an issue when your pregnant. I really look forward to using this with my next pregnancy since my hormones always leave my skin out of wack.

The wonderful people at Belli Skincare let me pick out my favorite product to offer as a giveaway! So one lucky winner will get a bottle of the Acne Clearing Wash. To enter please head over the Belli Skincare site and leave me a comment telling me which product you would like to try.

For additional entries please leave me a comment for each of the following:

If you subscribe to my blog via email
If you subscribe via feedburner
If you follow my blog
If you add my button to your blog
If you tweet about this and leave me the link
If you post about this on your blog

Giveaway ends April 25th 11:59 pm Open to US entries only.

Also, if you just can't wait to see if you've won to try out Belli, you can shop with a 15% discount! Just use code BELLIVIP when you order. Discount is good until May 5th. How sweet is that?

Bebe Au Lait Review

What are the Pregnancy Magazines's Top 120 Best Products for Mom & Baby in their Winter 2009 issue? Well I don't know any of them except the Bebe Au Lait nursing cover. The Bebe Au Lait website carries three different types of nursing covers: the Bebe Au Lait line, Hooter Hiders, and Simple by Bebe Au Lait, an organic line. The Hooter Hiders line and the Bebe Au Lait are the same just different names. Both lines are also award-winning!
All the nursing covers are with high quality, beautiful fabric. The fabric is unique and different than most on the market. I got to sample the Kensington and LOVE it! Not only does it look good but it serves it's purpose. Here is something from their site: "The difference between the patent-pending Hooter Hider and other nursing covers is the rigid neckline allowing Mom and Baby unobstructed eye contact during feeding and other thoughtful features such as a small-item storage and clean-up pocket made from the softest terry cloth. Mom sees Baby...Baby sees Mom...discreet...on-the-spot cleanup...perfect!" I also love that it has an adjustable neck strap.
Bebe Au Lait doesn't just sell nursing covers. They have the most adorable hooded towels in baby and toddler sizes, burp cloths to match your nursing cover, and the award-winning Double Reversible Bib that has a magnetic closure and offers four clean sides for a busy parent to use.
I love their whole online shop and the packaging for my cover. Bebe Au Lait gave me the feel that I was receiving something from an upscale boutique! These would of course make great baby shower presents or even a Mother's Day gift! To check them out for yourself or to find the closest store that carries Bebe Au Lait products, you can go to their site: bebeaulait.com.

Another Great Shelf Reliance Giveaway Thrive Essentials Sample Pack

If you were sad you didn't win the Shelf Reliance Cansolidator giveaway- here is another chance to win something for your food storage! As I have mentioned before, Shelf Reliance has a great new program to help with food storage- The Thrive Q. It uses the same concept as Netflix, but with food!

Here’s how the THRIVE Q works:
1) A family or individual creates a customized food storage plan through the Shelf Reliance website (www.shelfreliance.com/Q).
2) The THRIVE Q “Pay As You Go” payment option is selected.
3) A monthly budget is determined.
4) The plan is then divided into monthly shipments (based on the determined budget) that ship automatically to your home.
5) Monthly shipments and billings are automatically generated until your THRIVE Q plan is complete.
6) Plans can be paused, altered, or cancelled at any time.
The THRIVE Q is great because it promotes the concept of continually preparing while responsibly staying out of debt. It also allows families and individuals to completely customize a plan to their preferences. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program, which makes Shelf Reliance’s concept incredibly unique.

Here is what one lucky winner will receive: The Essentials sample pack comes with 6 #10 cans of some of the most popular THRIVE food storage items! Contents of the sample pack include: Whole Wheat Flour, Hard White Winter Wheat, Instant Rice, Freeze-Dried Strawberries, Potato Chunks, and Small Red Beans.

I would LOVE to have one of these! It has a little of everything! But if you can't wait to see if you've won, Shelf Reliance has a 10% discount for my readers. Just enter Q10 into the reference code box located in step 3 of the THRIVE Q Settings page at http://shelfreliance.com/. How cool is that?

I think this plan is really neat for people on a budget as well as staying motivated in achieving a food storage plan. It's a great way to stay organized! Now if only this plan was available for Coach purses....

So if you would like to win please let me know where you are at in your food storage plan- have you just started, totally on the ball with it, or have no idea where to begin? (As for me it is the slow way- buying a little at a time at the grocery store) Please include your email as well.
For an extra entry on top of the usual ones below- sign up for the Shelf Reliance newsletter at shelfreliance.com and leave me a comment that you have done so.

For additional entries please leave a separate comment for each of the following:

Buggy Bubble Review

When my boys were babies and we would go for a drive in the car, they would SCREAM! It was so bad. The reason they would scream was because the sun was in their face and they absolutely hated it. Not to mention I felt bad that the sun was directly on them. I would try draping a blanket over the carseat but was concerned that my boys couldn't breathe. I also struggled with the blanket that kept falling down.

How I wish I had the Buggy Bubble! The Buggy Bubble is a "protective infant car seat cover" that is not only water resistant ( which is great for carrying the car seat in the rain) but UPF 50+ as well!

What I loved about the Buggy Bubble is how compact and light weight it is. It's easy to carry in your car since it folds into it's own compact carrying bag. It also fits most car seats. I am so glad that I have this for the next baby (whenever that may be) and feel good that this will be one less thing to be worried about. What a great peace of mind that I my baby will be protected from the harmful and bright UV rays. If you would like more info on the Buggy Bubble then you can headover to their site buggybubble.com as well as a list of retailers.

Safe Sippy Cup Review and Giveaway

I recently went through my kitchen and purged anything plastic that my boys used before the big BPA awareness that has occurred. Sippy cups, plates, bowls, and utensils were all tossed out. Now I am replenishing my supply with BPA free products and was so thrilled to include the Safe Sippy Cup.

The Safe Sippy Cup, from Kid Basix, is a stainless steel cup that has a great design as well as function. When the Safe Sippy Cup was designed, safety was on top of the list. The creators of the cup made sure to include BPA- free plastic and non- leaching stainless steel materials.

Here is what the site mentions: "Making kids' lives better.
This was the simple idea that drove the development of our first product, and it is the idea that will drive the products yet to come.

Simple ideas can make for ambitious goals. Our founder created The Safe Sippy™ cup because he knows how dangerous plastics are, and it drove him crazy that he was giving his two year old son water every morning in a cup made from toxic chemicals.

It is our goal that the future products from Kid Basix have the same simple singleness of purpose: Making kids’ live better."

I feel so much safer using this sippy cup for my boys. Nothing is better than peace of mind when it comes to the health of your child!

So guess what? The great people at Kid Basics are giving away 3 Safe Sippy Cups (one pink, blue and green) to one lucky winner! If you would like to win this set please go to the Safe Sippy Cup site and come back and tell me what you love about the cup. Please include your email address.

The Daily Dakin

Look at this boy- seriously, just look at how stinkin' sweet he is!! His name is Dakin and his mom is one of my followers (and I'm totally one of hers!). His amazing mom, Devon, got in touch with me about sharing his story to raise awareness for SMA- Spinal Muscular Atrophy. How could I not? Here is what she shared with me:
"He was born perfectly normal but at three months literally one day could no longer breathe. He was whisked to Dallas and given a tracheostomy and put on a ventilator, upon which he is dependent to breathe. Dakin is cognitively normal but unable to walk or crawl, as his weakened muscles do not allow him to do so. He will most likely be ventilator and wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.

SMARD is part of a family of diseases that also includes ‘regular’ Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA type one is the number one genetic killer of children under age 2. One in 40 people carry the gene that causes SMA. These sweet babies are not expected to live to see their 2nd birthday, and they spend much of their lives trapped in bodies that cannot move, though their minds are intact.

There is hope, though!! SMA was chosen by the National Institutes of Health as one of the neuromuscular diseases closest to treatment and cure. So to that end the Act is waiting to be reintroduced in the 111th Congress. This Act, which has bipartisan support, will allocate already existing funds from the National Institutes of Health’s budget towards unifying SMA treatment studies and moving them towards a cure. To garner support for the Act, Bill and Victoria Strong, whose sweet daughter Gwendolyn has SMA type one, started the petition. There are already 50,000 signatures, and we are aiming for 100,000."
I have to admit-it sounds weird but I sometimes have a hard time going to Dakin's blog The Daily Dakin because I usually get very teary eyed when I do. I can only imagine what it would be like to be Dakin living with his condition. I especially can't begin to think about Devon and her strength that she has everyday. I especially admire Devon for using Dakin's situation to help build awareness for such an important cause.
On my sidebar is a button where you can click to sign the petition, or just click here. I did it and it took no time at all. If you have time you can also visit The Daily Dakin to show your support and grab a button of your own. We as bloggers can have fun entering giveaways and sharing money saving tips- so why not use our special blogging powers and support SMA?

End of Day Whining- Guest Article from Sharon Silver at Proactive Parenting!

Here is a great article from Sharon Silver at Proactive Parenting. I know I really struggle with my boys whining while I am trying to make dinner. This article has some great tips. Don't forget to enter the Proactive Parenting Giveaway HERE. The deadline has been extended and I have changed it back to my original entry method!

End of the Day Whining: Two tips to help
The adult world can leave you exhausted at the end of the day. All you want to do is decompress; yet your child wants 100% of your attention, and the evening arguing begins.
Mom needs to get dinner ready or bedtime will be late and dad needs to send one more email before work tomorrow. Your child doesn’t care about that, she doesn’t know anything about the adult world, she lives in the present moment and wants your attention now. And now the whining and yelling begins.

Most children can be whiney at the end of day. They’ve held it together emotionally all day without you and now they’re home where it’s safe and the emotions begin to roll. However parents have been in the adult world all day and have little energy left for any whining.
Here are two tips, one feeds attention and one feeds the tummy, both help change End of the Day Whining.

• Literally feed end of the day whining—don’t starve it.
What if you began by feeding your child ahead of dinner instead of insisting she stop whining now! We all know mealtime can be the only focused time a family has all day, and I’m not asking you to give that up, I’m suggesting a change in how it goes. Sometimes hunger causes whining and food is the only solution.

• Be proactive create a “dinner box”.
Have a container waiting in the refrigerator so she can have food as soon as she gets home. Stock the box ahead of time with things like cheese, yogurt, lunch meat, tuna, veggies and dip, fruit,
cheese and crackers, cheese tortillas, or leftovers. What ever works for your child, as long as it’s
healthy.

• Won’t that spoil her dinner?
No, it becomes the bulk of her dinner. It’s simply feeding her the way you used too when she was a baby, before you eat. Now she’s older and can handle eating as she does the next tip and while you continue to make the family meal. Also, your child’s stomach is the size of her fist. Toddlers and preschoolers don’t eat as much as adults do, and most don’t enjoy complex adult food; they’re natural grazers and prefer small portions many times a day of the foods already mentioned.

• What about family time?
Eating together each night is very important, but it’s not the eating of the food that’s so
important, it’s the time spent together. Now that your child has been partially fed invite her to
finish dinner with the family or have her join you for desert. This way you get to have a calmer
family meal with less whining.

• Feed the need for attention—but on your terms.
This tip will fill both of your needs, she gets attention and you continue making dinner. Consider
having a special seat in the kitchen called “time with me seat”? That way your child can be with
you—but not under foot. Have your child sit in her “special” seat as she eats from the “dinner box” and let her eat slowly as she tells you about her day. Begin by asking her direct questions to get things started and then let her go on about anything. This exchange fills her up with the attention she’s craving and doesn’t force you stop the flow of family life as you provide one‐on‐one time.
